Together, we laugh, learn, and celebrate the magic of childhood through the lens of nature-based education.
In 2022, I started an Instagram account to share my daily life as a nature-based early childhood educator at a progressive preschool-8th grade school in Virginia. I was teaching Spanish, French, and a nature discovery class called Wonderlab. Back then, I had around 200 followers and no grand plans beyond sharing the beautiful moments in my teaching life—I simply had to!
Fast forward to today, and “Among the Fairies” has blossomed into a thriving community of people who believe in the power of nature to nurture our children’s growth.
the reason behind it all
sharing the magic: resources for raising nature-loving kids
As more people started to follow my journey, my inbox began to fill with questions—about nature-based education, what I do, and how I do it.
This sparked my desire to create meaningful resources for parents and educators looking to bring this way of being into their homes and classrooms.
Connecting with others who want to raise kids that know more plant species than brand logos? It’s pure joy. And designing tools that I wish I had when I first started this journey? There’s nothing more fulfilling.
A mentor of mine once said, "When children come to the forest, they awaken the fairies."
In other words, they spark the magic of life.
I see it every day in the smallest actions, the expressions of wonder, and the pure, radiant energy that children bring. They truly are the fairies, and I am honored to live and learn among them every day.
so, why “among the fairies”?
Hi, I’m Kelsey, and I am so glad you are here.
I’ve been working with children for over five years (plus a lifetime of babysitting and wrangling neighborhood kids) and am earning my master’s degree in Nature-Based Early Childhood Education.
Currently, I teach at a nature preschool in Alexandria, VA, spending my days with 20 bright, beautiful three-year-olds and a dream team of three co-teachers who inspire me daily.
We’re outside all day—yes, literally all day—learning through, with, and from nature.
meet kelsey: the brain behind it
My passion lies in being fully present with children as they grow, allowing life itself to be the learning experience, and protecting the magic of slow, peaceful childhoods. It’s my mission to share this path with as many people as possible and show how nature-based learning can meet every educational goal imaginable.
a peek beyond the classroom
When I’m not teaching, you’ll find me laughing with my loved ones, thrifting treasures I swear I’ll use someday, starting creative projects that may or may not get finished, wrestling with my garden, and diving into books with unreliable narrators.
If any of this sounds like you—send me a message wherever suits you best!
I love making new connections.
